S.T.A.R. Program

S stands for Student, that's you! How do you become a student at Kent State University at East Liverpool or Kent State University at Salem? All it takes is an application to the campus. Once you have applied to Kent State University at East Liverpool or Salem, you will receive information about upcoming dates for the S.T.A.R. program.

T stands for Testing. Kent State University uses COMPASS, a self-paced computer assessment of basic skills, to measure how well you understand what you read, and how well you use the English language. The ALEKS software program is used to assess your mathematical placement. An advisor will evaluate the need for these assessments, and make the appropriate accommodations, if you are a transfer student, or have taken the ACT or SAT within 3 years.

A stands for Advising. All students will have an academic advisor. After you have completed the needed assessment(s), you will sit down with an advisor to review your results and discuss academic requirements.
R stands for Registration. During your advising session you will be registered for classes, receive financial aid information, and receive your KSU FLASHcard (student ID card).
